Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Maintain the health of offenders
  • Identify the individual needs of offenders and how they relate to the correctional environment
       
Element: Interact with offenders to identify issues impacting their wellbeing
       
Element: Provide offenders the information they need to protect their health, and avoid stress and risk to their welfare
       
Element: Assist offenders to identify and develop strategies to resolve problems that may affect their health and welfare
       
Element: Report health and safety concerns to authorised people
       
Element: Refer offenders to relevant specialist services in accordance with policies and guidelines
       
Element: Resolve safety concerns
  • Assess risks to safety and respond, giving priority to the protection of people involved
       
Element: Assess incidents and call for extra support in accordance with emergency procedures
       
Element: Respond immediately to requests for support from colleagues
       
Element: Provide information about the incident and participate in review of the incident and response
       
Element: Record all incidents in the relevant organisational formats
       
Element: Ensure the environment is maintained to prevent and remove hazards

Element: Supervise the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by offenders for all activities requiring it

Assessment Tasks

Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
